Prospective PhD students

We are aiming to hire one Ph.D. student every year.

How to apply

  • Please apply to Yale Computer Science PhD Program and on your application, specify me as a faculty you’d want to work with
  • You don’t need to contact me prior to applying, but if you like, feel free to email me your CV and research interests with subject line starting with “[fall2026]”

Note: Due to the overwhelming number of emails, while I’ll read them, I probably won’t be able to respond

You can just directly apply to Yale and list me as an faculty you want to work with, and I’ll make sure to take a close look at your application.

Masters students

Generally, we welcome motivated masters students who plan to apply to Ph.D. programs, or students enrolled in 2 year masters program.
We currently do not have specific funding to support masters students. But feel free to to ask.

Undergraduate students

Undergraduate students at Yale.

We generally welcome motivated undergraduate students to join our lab!
Strong programming skills and experience in AI/ML/NLP is considered a plus.

Visiting students and researchers

We currently do not accept visiting students or interns, unless there is an exceptional fit.

Are there any particular qualifications that you look for in potential Ph.D. students?

  • Strong academic record and research passion
  • Demonstrated research experience
  • Great communication and problem-solving skills
  • Research interests aligned with our group
  • Applications from underrepresented groups are especially encouraged

Do I need to have first-author publications when applying to Ph.D.?

While first-author publications are considered as a plus, they are not required and we look at your application as a whole.

Are you hiring postdocs?

Not currently, but exceptional candidates may reach out.
